The Galway

We've been making the Galway boot for the best part of a century. The Galway is instantly recognisable from the distinctive, curved arrowhead on its side. Both practical and full of character, the Galway has gained iconic status as the ultimate derby boot.

We've been making the Galway boot for the best part of a century. Once called pattern 1836, the Galway is instantly recognisable from the distinctive curved arrowhead on its side. Both practical and full of character, the Galway has gained iconic status as the ultimate derby boot.

The style's strong, country heritage is reflected in the veldtschoen boot we continue to make in country calf on the rounded 64 last. Veldtschoen construction involves the upper being pulled over the welt for added weather protection, and was supposedly pioneered by the Boers of southern Africa before being adopted by the British military.

Today we also make the Galway with a goodyear welt in a wide variety of leathers and lasts - sometimes casual, sometimes sartorial, always iconic. We have new suede variants this autumn - snuff and mink suedes on the 202 last with dainite rubber soles. They join Galways crafted from our waxed utah calf with dainite soles on the 82 - a chic yet casual take on the classic. Made from complementary calves and suedes, the Galway is a sophisticated and urbane choice, ideal for a more formal style.
